Our residentials are designed to give young people the chance to engage with their passions in a relaxed and supportive environment – We are an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and are keen to provide support and opportunities to allow people to do what they love! Below you will find our adverts, as well as the course outlines for each course. However, please be aware that the course outlines are subject to change on the courses!

Grumpy Moose Art Residential: 27-31 July 2026

Our art course will give you the opportunity to create a range of unique pieces, inspired by a range of workshops and with the time to devote to each piece. If you enjoy the freedom to create and want some fresh ideas, this course will be for you.

Our workshops will be designed to provide you with a new challenge, and will encourage you to create traditional and contemporary pieces in response to a range of tasks, including movie posters, comic strips, a range of landscape and setting pieces and fantasy portraits. Students will create sketches throughout the week, and have the chance to develop their favourites into fully fledged pieces.

Our aim is that you will leave with a portfolio of varied pieces that could form the basis of an art portfolio or just be something to look back on with pride! The cost for the week will be £445 per student, which will cover the cost of accommodation, all workshops, art materials, and full board.

Grumpy Moose Board Gaming Residential: 3rd-7th August 2026

Are you interested in spending time with others who share your hobby, and want to devote a week to competitive and cooperative board gaming? Our Board Gaming residential is aimed at young people who enjoy gaming and who want to expand their horizons. You will play a range of genres across the week, including traditional board games, story based role play and party games. You will also work with others to design your own games and have the chance to try them out!

The course will be held at Pocklington School, near York, and will cost £430 per student. This will cover the cost of full board accommodation, all workshops, games and materials.

Grumpy Moose Creative Writing Residential: Two dates available! 27th-31st July – OR 3rd- 7th August 2026

Our Creative Writing courses are available to anyone with a passion for creative writing. Each day will consist of a number of workshops on different aspects of story writing – ghost stories, poetry, character, plot and more! – free time to write independently and collaboratively and explore the inspiring area of your surroundings, and then evenings will be spent sharing work and creative ideas.

Our aim is that all students attending the course will leave with a portfolio of creative work inspired by the workshops, their surroundings and their peers. The course will be held at Pocklington School, near York, and will cost £430 per student. This will cover the cost of accommodation, all workshops and full board.

Grumpy Moose Dance and Performance Residential: 8th -13th August 2025

Available to anyone with a passion for dance and a desire to learn and perform a new range of routines with likeminded people, our Dance and Performance course will be held at Pocklington School, near York.

The week will consist of a number of workshops on a range of styles, from contemporary to Musical Theatre. You will also choreograph and perform a solo and a group performance, and star in your own music video!

Our aim is that all students attending the course will practise a range of skills, work with like-minded people from across our dance, film and drama courses, and above all, gain in confidence. The cost for the week will be £430 per student which will cover the cost of accommodation, all workshops and full board.

Grumpy Moose Drama and Performance Residential: 8th -12th August 2026

If you have a passion for Drama and a love of performing, our Drama and Performance Course will give you the chance to try something new, work with like-minded people, and above all gain in confidence. Across the week you will take part in workshops on a range of skills including emotion, movement, background acting, improv and directing, as well as a number of more unusual performances: a Murder Mystery evening, Musical Theatre Lip Sync battles, music videos, and a final group piece. You will also have the chance to work with people from across our film and dance courses to share ideas and performances. Regardless of your prior skill or experience, we promise to give you an unforgettable week!

Grumpy Moose RPG (Table Top Role Play Gaming) Residential: 3rd-7th August 2026

Whether you love RPG’s and have played for years, or have just always liked the sound of them, this course will give you the chance to spend a full five days gaming, creating and designing your own rule systems and ideas. As part of the residential you will play Realm, a custom game system designed for all levels of experience, as well as design your own game system and one shot games. You will also take part in a number of workshops on different aspects of RPGs, including world creation, character design, and game mechanics.

Students will have the chance to create their own ideas and design their own game system, and to test these on a like-minded audience! The course will be held at Pocklington School, near York, and will cost £430. This will cover accommodation, all workshops and full board.

Grumpy Moose Short Film Making Residential: 8th -12th August 2026

A chance to work on your filming, acting and editing! Our film making course, held at Pocklington School, near York, will explore a range of styles and give students the chance to work with others to create a range of different films.

Seminars will look at storyboarding, camera tricks, editing and so on, and students will across the week create their own scenes, music videos and complete short films.

Our aim is that all students attending the course will produce a portfolio of work based on the seminars and working alongside our actors and dancers. The cost for the week will be £430 per student which will cover the cost of accommodation, all workshops and full board.
